Established in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Toronto is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organization. We welcome all people without discrimination to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with low-income families. One hundred percent of all administrative and fundraising costs are paid for by the operation of three ReStores. Habitat ReStores sell quality new and used donated building materials. Every 10 minutes, Habitat for Humanity helps a family improve their housing situation in more than 100 countries around the world.
Habitat Toronto believes in:
-
offering a hand up; not a hand out
-
empowering low-income families
-
homeownership
-
diversity and inclusiveness
-
the volunteer spirit
-
excellence in home construction
-
safety
Habitat Toronto, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, works with corporate, individual and faith-based donors and volunteers to give families a hand up, not a hand out.
We help families who:
-
currently live in substandard housing
-
are willing to volunteer 500 hours of “sweat equity”
-
will repay a zero-down payment, interest-free mortgage over an average 25 years
Mortgage payments from Habitat homeowners go directly into a trust to build more Habitat homes. For every 12 homes we build in Toronto, we can build one home per year from the mortgage income alone. Our model empowers families to help families.
When you make a donation to Habitat for Humanity Toronto, every dollar of your gift goes directly towards building homes with families in need. Profits from our ReStores cover 100% of our administrative costs.
