High School Students
Volunteering at Habitat for Humanity Toronto is a great way to contribute to the community service hours required by school boards for graduation. Co-op placements are possible, but are considered on a case-by-case basis only. Students who would like to volunteer as a group are requested to go through our Adopt-A-Day program.

Additional requirements for High School students looking to volunteer include:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • An adult to student ratio of 1:5 is required. Due to safety considerations, there are no exceptions to this rule
  • Those under the age of 18 (but at least 16 years old) must have their waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Students with waivers that are not signed by a parent or legal guardian cannot remain on site

Post-Secondary Education Students
Get your school involved and make a tangible difference in the life of a family in need. Participate in an Adopt-A-Day build or come out as an individual volunteer.

The Habitat Campus Coalition, a group of representatives from the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, George Brown College, Seneca College and York University, meet monthly with the goal of getting students involved with Habitat for Humanity.

The main purpose of the Habitat for Humanity Toronto Campus Coalition is:
  • To unite students from campuses across the GTA who share a similar vision, that access to safe, decent and affordable housing is a basic human right that should be available to all.
  • Student representatives raise awareness about Habitat for Humanity’s mission: To provide affordable housing to low-income families as a method of breaking the cycle of poverty
  • They assist Habitat for Humanity Toronto by mobilizing student volunteers to help build affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Representatives are expected to attend bi-weekly meetings at the Habitat for Humanity Toronto office. For more information please e-mail us at signmeup@torontohabitat.on.ca.

If your school is not listed and you would like to join the Campus Coalition, please contact our volunteer co-ordinator here for more details.
