The Role of Habitat Leaders
Habitat for Humanity Toronto is always looking for people with strong leadership skills to guide and instruct volunteers during a build day. Construction/Renovation experience is an asset but not a necessity.
Crew Leaders help direct and organize the many individual volunteers and corporate groups that come out to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity Toronto build sites. Their care, encouragement, and of course leadership, make daily production and progress possible. Crew Leaders are also “The Face of Habitat” to the new volunteer; they are educators, advocates for the mission, and often our best ambassadors.
If you would like to be a Crew Leader, you are encouraged to schedule a build shift. You can do this in a matter of minutes by visiting www.torontohabitat.on.ca/scheduler. Your leadership skills must be assessed by the Site Supervisor. If the Site Supervisor thinks that you would be a good Crew Leader, he will promote you to Crew Leader In-Training.
We do encourage Crew Leaders to participate in training and will offer various classes throughout the year. All classes including dates will be distributed in the monthly E-blast (email). Some Crew Leader Training Courses have included:
• New Crew Leader Orientation (leadership skills, site safety, history/mission of Habitat, etc.)
• Window and Door installation
• Fall Protection
Our Crew Leaders also receive special scheduling privileges; shifts always appear in green (available). Questions? Email volunteercoordinator@torontohabitat.on.ca or call 416-407-6967.
