Becoming a Volunteer

  Volunteer FAQ

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Habitat for Humanity.
In 2008, 11,000 volunteers donated over 84,658 hours of their time and talent to Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Join us as we help families in need open the door to a new life. Share your skills, meet new people, and help us put our mission into action.

How can I make a difference?
An ongoing investment of your time makes an enormous difference in the lives of Torontonians in need. You do not need to be skilled in construction. You do not even have to know how to swing a hammer! Opportunities exist in our
ReStores, office, or on one of our committees. You can participate as an individual, or sign up as a group.

To volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Toronto:
1. Visit our Immediate Needs/Positions Available page for all volunteer opportunities and reply to one of these postings to schedule your shift(s). You can also register by sending an email to volunteercoordinator@torontohabitat.on.ca.

2. New volunteers should attend the New Volunteer Information Session, a one hour meeting that includes general information on Habitat Toronto, what to expect of our build sites, as well as safety tips. While the Session is not mandatory, we highly recommend you attend to get the most out of your volunteer experience.

We also encourage you to familiarize yourself with our Volunteer Manual and our Home Builder's Safety, Health, and Environmental Handbook. Both of these documents are available for download.

If you have a sense of adventure, are in good health, and are willing to work hard for a great cause, you may wish to look into international volunteering opportunities available through our Global Village Programs.
